Brass tubes are widely used in heat-exchange equipment, and they can also be employed in the low-temperature pipelines of oxygen-generation equipment. Today, our editor will explain to you the process advantages, welding techniques, and connection strength of brass tubes!

Process advantages of copper pipes

1. Phosphorus-deoxidized copper tubing. Advantages of melting and casting processes: The melting process employs a power-frequency core-type induction furnace. At high temperatures, pure copper has strong gas absorption properties; therefore, during melting, it is essential to minimize gas sources as much as possible. Moreover, calcined charcoal can be used as a flux, and phosphorus can also serve as a deoxidizer. The casting process must be carried out under nitrogen protection or with ash-covered shielding. Advantages in forming performance: This material exhibits excellent cold and hot working properties, allowing it to undergo precision stamping, drawing, extrusion, deep drawing, bending, and spin forming. Advantages in welding performance: It is easy to weld by fusion brazing and gas-shielded welding, but resistance seam welding is not recommended.

2. Pure copper tubing. Advantages of melting and casting processes: Melting is carried out either in a reverberatory furnace or in a power-frequency core-type induction furnace. Forming performance advantages: Excellent cold and hot working properties, allowing it to be processed using a variety of conventional methods such as drawing, rolling, and deep drawing. Welding performance advantages: Easily solderable by tin soldering and copper brazing; also suitable for gas-shielded welding, flash welding, electron-beam welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.

Welding of copper pipes and how to extend their service life

The welding procedure for copper pipes is broadly similar to that for brass pipes, with one key difference: the welding rods used for copper pipe welding must meet specific requirements. Moreover, after selecting the appropriate welding rod, a flux must also be used as an auxiliary material. During the welding of copper pipes, a carburizing flame is employed. The welding sequence is as follows: First, apply the flux to the area to be welded, then begin heating. Once heated, the flux will have melted into a liquid state; at this point, you can immediately place the preheated welding rod onto the weld joint.

In addition, taking the copper tube heat exchanger as an example, a typical heat exchanger has a service life of about two months. However, if you want the copper tube to last longer, it’s essential to have professional equipment maintenance personnel promptly replace or adjust the guide rods, and timely adjust or replace the guide rails and support rollers.

The tightness of the copper pipe connection

Today, the market offers a wide variety of pipe materials, and copper fittings are the primary choice for pipe connections. Even if some pipes can do without copper fittings in certain sections, they still require a fitting at the point where they connect to faucets. However, it’s important to note that when copper pipe fittings are connected to other types of pipes, the differing physical and mechanical properties caused by the distinct materials of the pipe and fitting—especially their varying thermal expansion and contraction characteristics—can pose additional challenges to the strength and durability of the connection. Therefore, connecting copper pipes with copper fittings significantly enhances the connection’s strength and reliability.
